Washington Trip June/July 2014

WASHINGTON TRIP JUNE/JULY 2014
We made a trip up to Washington to see my family.  It has been too long since we have been up there.  We decided it was cheaper to drive and Danny has never been to Idaho or Oregon so it was an adventure.  We were gone for 9 days and my parents planned something for us to do everyday all over Washington.  Thanks for the fun time Mom and Dad:)

SATURDAY, JUNE 28: 14 hour drive...
We left early Saturday at 5:15am!  I made the mistake the night before of telling the kids that we were going to wake them up early when it was still dark to get in the car and go.  They both woke up at 4am asking if it was time to go yet.  Oops.  As soon as we got on the freeway Kayzee asked, "Are we there yet?"  And she didn't stop.  She asked over 50 times during the 14 hour drive.  Other then that the kids did great!!!  We had to stop in Le Grande, Oregon because there was a very bad car accident in the mountain pass and we had to wait an hour.

Waiting for the freeway to open...

We still made it to my parents house in Woodinville, Washington in 14 hours like we were planning on.  My sister and her husband, and my brother are living with my parent's right now so it was fun to see them too!

Having fun after finally making it to Grandma and Grandpa Thorpe's house...

SUNDAY, JUNE 29: Seattle Aquarium, the Piers, and Snoqualmie Falls
Sunday we spent most of the day in Seattle.  First we went to the Aquarium.  Way too expensive for what it was but we had fun!  These pictures are from my camera and my sister's so they are in a weird order and some might be duplicates...

 Kayzee LOVES her Grandma!

My super tall brother and my brother-in-law.

After the Aquarium we went and walked through all the shops on the piers and had lunch.  The kids also got to go on the carousel.
After we drove to Snoqualmie Falls.  What a fun day!

MONDAY, JUNE 30: Mt. Rainier
Monday we drove up to Mt. Rainier.  It was beautiful!  Weather was perfect and sunny.  And with snow on the ground we had a snowball fight!

After we stopped at the famous Triple XXX for a treat...

TUESDAY, JULY 1: Cottage Lake, Playing with cousins, and El Gaucho
Tuesday everyone living in my parent's house had to work so we kind of did our own thing.  My parent's live by Cottage Lake so we went and played at the park and walked around the lake in the morning.  We went out to lunch and then headed over to my cousin's house.  She has two little girls and my kids had fun playing with them and all their toys.  It was HOT so my cousin set up a slip and slide for the kids.

That evening my parent's made reservations at El Gaucho.  A fancy restaurant in Bellevue.  My mom's friend is our designated babysitter whenever we go up there.  She has been watching the kids since they were babies so she loved seeing them all grown up.  We dropped the kids off and then headed to the restaurant.  Danny and I had our wedding anniversary on June 21 and my parent's had theirs on June 25 so my mom had told the restaurant that we were celebrating our anniversaries.  It was the most fancy restaurant Danny and I had ever been to.  We dressed up and they had decorated our table with rose petals and the staff signed a card for each of us.
The whole meal was AMAZING!!!  Expensive but AMAZING!!!  My parent's had a ceasar salad and our waitress made it from scratch right in front of us.  Danny and I ordered a meal to share.  A huge steak...BEST STEAK I have ever had, some vegetables and a baked potato with a yummy sauce.  My mom ordered the Flaming Sword.  The steak comes to the table sliced up on a sword that is on fire!  So cool!  We also got free dessert for our anniversaries.  YUM!  It was a great night and it was nice spending some time with my parent's.  Thanks for paying DAD:)

WEDNESDAY, JULY 2: Whidbey Island
Wednesday we took an all day trip to Whidbey Island.  We first drove the car onto a ferry and went for a ferry ride to the island.  Memphis and Kayzee LOVED it!

Then we drove around the whole island and stopped at all the cool sites and had a picnic.
We are up in the top of the lighthouse looking down at my dad taking pictures of us!

 There's Memphis!

We also stopped at the beach to play in the waves and sand.  Memphis and Kayzee had way too much fun they didn't want to leave.  The beach and ocean is what I miss most from growing up in California and now I am living too far away in Utah.  Weather was perfect once again.  We really lucked out with perfect weather on this trip!

Then we drove over to Deception Pass.  It is this huge tall long bridge.  First we walked over the bridge from one side to the other.  It was actually quite scary.  Tiny walkway tons of cars.  And it's a long way down!
 Under the bridge

A view of the bridge from a beach at the bottom.  I still can't believe we walked across it!

 So beautiful!

THURSDAY, JULY 3: Bowling, Lake Washington and Friends
Thursday once again my family had to work so we did our own thing.  First we went bowling.  I haven't bowled in like 5 years and Danny convinced me to try it again.  I actually surprised myself and scored over 100 with a strike!  Memphis got a strike too.
We went out to lunch and then went home to play games with my family.  We played a lot of rummy and video games.  That evening we drove to Lake Washington.  Some of our friends that lived by us in Utah have moved up to Washington so we met them at Newcastle Beach Park.  We had pizza and played in the lake.  We miss our friends so it was fun to see them and let our kids play.

FRIDAY, JULY 4: Fireworks and Family
4th of July fun!  We went over to my cousin's house for a bbq and fireworks.  All of my family that lives in Washington came.  It was a crowd and it was nice to see all my cousins and aunt and uncle who I rarely see.  Everyone chips in so they collect quite the pot of money to buy a lot of fireworks!  It takes HOURS to set them all off.  They have a bunch for the kids first then they start the BIG ones. What a fun night!

My cute kids:)

All the littles...going for a ride in my uncle's jeep.

Memphis looking through all the fireworks for the kids...

Fireworks for the adults!!!
It sprinkled a little at the beginning and was a little chilly but overall the weather was perfect for fireworks.

Daddy was nice and let Memphis light up some of his own fireworks.  Memphis had way too much fun with that!

Daddy helped Kayzee light some too!

 My dad and brother-in-law

Kayzee slept through the big fireworks
Cleaning up after

SATURDAY, JULY 5: Shopping, relaxing, and games
Saturday we all slept in after getting home really late the night before.  We went shopping for a few things for our drive home and played games.  More rummy and video games.  Lots of laughter and fun.  It was nice to stay home and relax too before we had to get back in the car and drive for 14 hours.

SUNDAY, JULY 6: Driving home
14 hour drive home.  Seemed longer because of the time change but the kids were so quiet on this trip and we didn't really have to stop for anything.  We did take a slight detour because we got on the wrong onramp after a stop for gas but it didn't add any mileage.  It was kinda cool to see a different part of Washington.  At last we made it home safe and were glad to sleep in our own beds!  No more sleeping on the floor!

Thanks for the fun Mom and Dad!  What a great trip to remember!!!
